February 2023 Review

This has been a turbulent month.

Miscellaneous Account#

This month has seen significant changes in my work. As the US tech giants gradually realized that they can maintain their existing business without expanding too much and without needing many employees, massive layoffs followed suit. Domestic companies have also started to imitate and follow suit, including our company. Various layoff information came one after another after the end of the Spring Festival. There have been significant personnel changes in my team. Three old employees were transferred, and some good friends who usually played together also resigned. The team has welcomed some experts from other teams. Personnel adjustments are accompanied by adjustments in job assignments. I have successfully taken over the responsibility of the firewall in the previous team. My daily work has changed from coding to "filtering" for fault diagnosis, analysis, and assignment. I am exhausted every day dealing with fault handling and tracking, and the time and effort I put into coding have decreased accordingly. I don't really like this kind of work state, and I haven't adapted to it yet. I have thought about quitting and finding a new job multiple times. Several colleagues in the team have been actively looking for jobs recently. However, under the current situation, the traditional peak recruitment season in the job market during the Chinese Spring Festival seems particularly ironic. They said they have applied to dozens of companies, but it feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. This gradually dispelled my thoughts of leaving.

So what should I do? Leaving is definitely something I will do, but the timing is not right now. From a social perspective, almost all companies are currently shrinking their recruitment or even laying off employees. It is like finding a needle in a haystack to find a job that I am satisfied with. From a personal perspective, the team has undergone adjustments, and it is normal to feel uncomfortable or not adapt to it. It is also normal to have thoughts of leaving. Moreover, my current level is not allowed to compete with so many job seekers outside. So after considering all these factors, I decided to learn from King Goujian of Yue and lie dormant for a while, polish my technical skills, and make other plans when the time is right. That's it.

There have also been many changes in my life this month. I rearranged the table in the rental house. I originally planned not to rent this house this year (it's too small), but fortunately, it is very close to the company, about a 10-minute bike ride away. I am currently not planning to quit, so I will renew the lease for another year. Then I did a major decluttering, donating some clothes and shoes that I bought but never wore, and rearranged the space layout. It feels much more spacious, and I am more determined not to move for now.

📚 Reading#

Total books read: 0, 0 books finished, 1 book in progress

  • "The Three-Body Problem" - Reading... I am still reading the original work. The three books are too much for me. I will try to finish reading it by next month's review.

🎬 Movies, TV Shows#

Recommended rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The last domestic sports film I watched was "Win the Championship". The narrative of sports films always gives people a roller coaster feeling. This table tennis film falls from its peak and gradually returns to the top with the efforts of generations of Chinese athletes. It is exciting and worth recommending. Unfortunately, it was originally scheduled to be released during the Spring Festival, but it was postponed, which affected its box office performance. However, it does not affect its positive reviews.

Recommended rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I watched a movie starring Wong Cho-lam last year called "Still the Best". As someone who understands Cantonese, it was quite good. This film refreshed my perception of Hong Kong films. Hong Kong films are not just about fighting. It turns out that legal dramas can also be very good, and the suspenseful part makes the viewing experience different. The plot twist is nice!

TV Shows:

Recommended rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I watched the first season before and quickly caught up after taking a day off. It's still good. The male lead is someone that many boys envy. He has someone he likes, someone who likes him, and even someone who is jealous of him. But in reality, it's not like that. Wake up, young man!

🎤 Podcasts#

This month, I completely switched to using Pocket Casts to listen to podcasts, so the presentation of the review will be different from before. Overall, this app is pretty good, but it can't load without a VPN. 😂 This month, I listened to podcasts for a total of 32 hours. The main themes of the podcasts I listened to this month were related to ChatGPT because it's really popular 😁, followed by topics related to layoffs, as I am in the midst of it.
